When Students Should Stay Home

Students should stay home when they have:

• Temperature of 100.4 or higher (student should be fever-free without fever-reducing medication for 24 hours prior to returning to school.)
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Contagious rash
• Pink eye (contagious while there is drainage from the eye)
• Strep throat (Exclude until 24 hours after antibiotic treatment begins and child is without a fever.)

  • If a student or staff member is sick, it is more important than ever that they stay home. Please help keep our community safe by being cautious and staying away, even if you think an illness could be allergies.
     

Head Lice

• Students are expected to stay home if live bugs are present.
• After first treatment is completed, student can return to class after visiting the health room for a check.
• Nits are NOT considered live lice.
• Please use the school nurse as a resource, if needed. I’m happy to walk you through the process to eliminate as quickly as possible.
   

Injuries

Unfortunately, injuries happen on the playground and while students are here at school. Typically, you will be called for an injury to the head. An exception to this would be a nondescript injury that caused no visible injury or no signs/symptoms of injury. If a broken/injured limb is suspected, you will be called. PLEASE let the classroom teacher or the nurse know if your student should be excluded from physical activity for any reason.
 

Medical Conditions

If your student has a health issue (chronic or acute) that may affect their learning or time at school, please feel free to share that information. My goal is to keep students safe and comfortable while at school. The more I know, the better I can help.
 

Health Screenings

• Hearing and vision screening occur annually in the fall.
• K, 1, 3, 5, and all new students to the district are screened.
• If a parent requests, a screening can take place outside of these parameters.
• If a student fails a vision screening, a referral form will be sent home.
• Once the student has been assessed by a doctor, please send back the referral form to school. This way, we know that the vision issue has been addressed.
• If a student fails a hearing screening, a student is rescreened two weeks later and assessed with an otoscope.
• If a student fails the additional hearing screening, parents will be notified for additional follow up.
